Remembering Grandma Golden

Grandmother Golden came to the United States in the late 1800’s. A proud naturalized American and talented seamstress, she was larger-than-life to my childhood self, standing 5’10” before adding her lace-up high heels.  I knew I wanted to depict her in fabric – red-white-and-blue, and golden bits surrounding her.  My childhood memories are a whirl of family stories and old photos, one of which was the inspiration for this piece.
